Speed Traps are areas or places where a speed limit is randomly changed in order to trap a speeding motorist. The speed limit can be changed with no real notice; often the new limit signs are not clear. Although speed traps may seem unlawful if you get caught you are legally obliged to pay the fine. Speed Traps are a headache both locals and travelers. Locals don't check if speed have changed in their area because they are used to driving there and travelers don't know the roads or trap areas at all.

Here are some tips on how to avoid those speed traps:

1. Be careful and heedful with traffic signs. When you're driving always be aware of the traffic signs you will encounter along the road.

2. Check your speed. Always keep your limit in mind. Don't break the speed limit. Don't try and be clever on open roads thinking you can speed, it could be a cop behind that billboard.

3. Get to know the speed limit. When you're planning for an out of town journey, make sure you know the speed of the different cities and towns you'll be passing by. Spend time on your research of limits and trap hot spots and take note of them.

4. Research. You can do your research easily online and find the areas with speed traps. There are various sites on the internet that you can visit to find lists of traps and their locations.

5. Buy a radar detector. If you can afford to buy a radar detector, you could buy in order to detect the traps. However you need to study the manual because if you use it incorrectly you could end up flying past the law over the speed limit. Also check if they are legal in your area.

6. Be a responsible driver. At the end of the day, it will always be your choice to behave by following traffic rules, be responsible and be patient in reduced speed limit areas, often those limits are put in place for your own safety.
